That actually sounds like a pretty good deal! But what about Internet connectivity? If we had that many people, is the hotel's (presumably wireless) network going to be able to handle our traffic?

I'd assume when you mention the hotel's netowork it would only be in relation to internet and not actually have anything to do with gaming right? Cause I'd be willing to bet that the hotel's current wireless is NOT able to handle about 260 gamers / internet surfers / filesharers at anywhere near the level of performance that we'd want (or even 100 gamers for that matter). Wirelss is certainly not optimal for LAN events anyway. If the hotel has much of a wired netowork it's most likely not going to be able to be used by gamers, unless people want to game from their rooms (which is quite a bit like gaming at home with a friend/roommate except a lot more expensive.)

Good assumption, and I should have clarified my question.

Yes, just Internet traffic. Lots of people will want to game online after a while (presumably) and download. It would suck if we had to download a driver @ 7 kbps (or porn...lol) because of unusually high traffic. It would be worth having meth0d check with his friend as to what type of Internet connection is offered and if we can patch into it. I don't know much about how hotels manage their networks, but I think it's safe to say that, while it might be a great place to game, Internet connectivity will be a serious consideration.

I am guessing that the hotel has it's own business network/ISP with limited capabilities and that their guest services wireless/wired network/ISP is from an outside vendor, which will greatly limit Internet connectivity, because they're generally based upon daily subscriptions and are generally only available via wireless connections. I highly doubt that the hotel will let us jump on their network, which leaves us to the guest services vendor.

T1? Just wireless or can we patch in the convention room(s)?
Is it free and widely available throughout the hotel (wireless &/or RJ45 connections)??
Is there an outside vendor from which temporary subscriptions need to be purchased?
Will it be based on a per room occupancy where a username/password has to be utilized?

meth0d? Can you find out?

LANparty gurus...suggestions?

Just my two cents...

The biggest issue is going to be power!
If you've never ran a lan (more then 25 PC's) then you have no Idea how much power we all use!
There are temp Internet services that you can get but the cost is going to make it bad. Really bad if you already factor in the $100+ anight rate .....with all that your going to have a hard time getting gamers....

We need to think Convetion center not hotel....Hotels are ok of 25-40 gamers but not for 100-400. Convetion centers have the power we'll need and I'm sure they can point us in the right direction for a High speed TEMP ISP.

Just my $0.02
